Helldivers 2 keeps crashing? No worries! We’ve got you covered with some effective fixes to try out. You don’t need to tackle them all at once—just work through the list until you find the solution that works best for you.

Before You Start…

Before we dive into troubleshooting, it’s worth checking out the Helldivers 2 team’s updates on known issues and workarounds. Just head over to the Current known issue page to see if you can find helpful instructions.

1. Turn Off Unnecessary Apps

Programs running in the background can interfere with your game, particularly those that overlay games – like Discord, Steam Overlay, NVIDIA Overlay, and MSI Afterburner Overlay.

Additionally, you might want to keep an eye out for audio processing software like Cepstral SwiftTalker which has been known to cause crashes in Helldivers 2. So if you have this software running, try disabling it while gaming.

To disable unnecessary applications while gaming, you can press Ctrl + Shift + ESC to open the Task Manager, and right-click on the tasks to disable them.

2. Rule Out Driver-related Issues

Update your graphics driver

Outdated graphics drivers are often the culprit behind game crashes and a simple update would fix the issue in such cases.

If you have an AMD GPU, visit the AMD Drivers and Support page, and select your GPU to download the latest driver. If you have an NVIDIA GPU, go to the NVIDIA Download Drivers page to download and install the driver.

Uninstall potential conflict drivers

Some players have reported fixing game crash issues by disabling Sonic Studio Virtual Mixer, or LogMeIn Hamachi Virtual Ethernet Adapter, indicating a known conflict between these two software and Helldivers 2.

To see if this is the problem for you:

1. Press the Windows logo key and R.

2. Type devmgmt.msc and press Enter.

3. Right-clcik Sonic Studio Virtual Mixer under Sound, video and game controllers and select Uninstall device to disable it.

To check and repair corrupted files through Steam, right-click Helldivers 2, select Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files.

Delete the Arrowhead folder

If verifying the game files through Steam doesn’t fix the issue, try deleting all your game files to force the game to regenerate them.

1. Press the Windows logo key and R.

2. Type %appdata%, and press Enter.

3. Delete the Arrowhead folder. (Note that this will erase your game progress.)

4. Adjust In-game Settings

Sometimes, the game’s settings might be configured in a way that causes instability or incompatibility with your PC hardware or software. To fix this issue, try lowering your game’s resolution or frame rate to reduce the load on your system.

Additionally, some Steam community users have also resolved the game crashing issue by disabling Anti-Aliasing and Screen-Space Global Illumination.

5. Update Microsoft Visual C++ files

To run the game smoothly on your PC, make sure you have the latest Microsoft Visual C++ libraries installed. You can download the required redistributables from Microsoft’s website and repair or reinstall them.

1. Right-click Helldivers 2 and click Properties.

2. Click Controller on the left panel.

3. Disable Steam input.
