How to Fix Palworld Crashing on PC

Are you facing crashes while playing Palworld? You’re not alone Many gamers have reported this exact problem, but fear not. We’ve got you covered with a few known fixes to try out. You don’t need to try them all—just work through the list until you find the solution that works best for you.

Before You Start

Game crashing can be a server-side problem. So before we start troubleshooting, take a moment to check the Palworld Status page to ensure that the server is up and running.

1. Check for Overheating

Overheating is a common issue that can lead to system instability and crashes, especially during resource-intensive tasks like gaming. You can monitor the temperature of your PC hardware through tools like HWMonitor.

If overheating is a problem for you, you can clean out dust from your PC’s fans to ensure your hardware ventilates properly; Or you can turn off your PC for a while to let it cool down.

2. Update Graphics Driver

Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers can cause your game to crash, so you want to ensure your graphics driver is updated.

You can find the most updated drivers for your device on the manufacturer’s website. If you have an AMD graphics card, go to the AMD Drivers and Support page and download the latest driver. If you have an NVIDIA graphics card, go to the NVIDIA Driver Downloads page instead.

3. Verify Game Files

Sometimes Palworld game files can become corrupted and cause issues like crashing. To rule out this issue, you can verify the integrity of the game files through Steam.

1. Open the Steam client.

2. Right-click on Palworld, select Properties.

3. Click on Installed Files, then Verify Integrity of Game Files.

4. Restore Your Save

Palworld automatically creates backups of your player and world data at regular intervals and stores them on your PC. You can try restoring your save and see if the crashing issue persists:

1. Go to the following directory:

C:\Users\[Your username]\AppData\Local\Pal\Saved\SaveGames

2. Click the following two folders named with a set of random numbers, as shown in the screenshot:

3. Click the backup folder and then click the local folder.

4. Select a recently created folder. (Note that each folder represents a backup created at a specific time. You want to select a backup from before the crashing issue occurred to revert to a stable state of your game.)

5. Open the selected folder and copy the LocalData.sav file within this folder.

6. Navigate back to the folder where the \backup\ folder is located and paste the copied LocalData.sav file into this folder to replace the existing one.

7. Go to \backup\player folder, and follow the same steps to replace the PlayerData.sav file. (Make sure the Date modified time of the two files you choose are the same.)

After this, you restore your game’s saved data and your player-specific data to a previous state. If the corruption of these files causes the crashing issue, you should be able to play the game normally now.

5. Lower Graphics Settings

High graphics settings can strain your system, causing Palworld to crash, especially if your hardware doesn’t meet the game’s requirements. In this case, try lowering the settings to reduce the load on your system and it should fix the crash.

1. Launch Palworld and go to the settings menu.

2. Turn all graphics down to the lowest setting.

3. Apply the changes and restart the game

If your game still crashes, read on and try the next fix.

6. Disable Background Apps

Background programs consume your system resources, especially resource-intensive ones like web browsers or video editors.

Additionally, some programs can interfere with your game, particularly those that overlay games – like Discord, Steam Overlay, NVIDIA Overlay, and MSI Afterburner Overlay.

So we recommend closing any unnecessary applications while gaming.

7. Switch DirectX

If you’re on a high-end PC, you can play the game on DirectX 12. According to Microsoft, DirectX 12 reduces CPU overhead by up to 50 percent and improves GPU performance by as much as 20 percent.

1. Open Steam and go to your games library.

2. Right-click Palworld and select Properties.
4. In the General tab, find the Launch Options section and type -dx12 in the box.

5. Relate the game to test the issue. If this doesn’t fix the issue, make sure you clear the -dx12 command and try the fix below.
