Instagram is the easiest and most fun place to share photos with people both inside and outside our social circle. However, you might find it difficult to follow people you know on this site without knowing their usernames.
This article discusses how to find someone on Instagram by phone number and provides some other methods you can try to locate someone on this site.
1. Sync Your Contacts with Instagram
Instagram gives you the ability to search for people who are on your phone contact list. So if you have someone’s phone number written down, just add it to your device’s contacts, and upload your contacts to Instagram to find the profile linked to that phone number.
To do this:
- Open Instagram and sign into your account.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Account, then tap Contacts Syncing.
- Tap Connect Contacts to turn on contact syncing.
This allows Instagram to recommend accounts to follow based on your contacts.
2. Try a People Finder
Using a people search tool is the most effective way to find out someone’s online profiles, which includes not only Instagram profiles but also profiles on other social networks such as Facebook, Instagram, Tinder, Match, etc.
There are many people search tools available, and our top choices are:
You can run a reverse phone lookup with these tools to search for someone’s information, e.g. names, contacts, social media profiles, pictures, criminal records, and more. And you get all the information all in one report, in just one search.
Using these tools is simple. For example, go to Intelius and type in the phone number you have, and hit Search.
After a moment, you should see the results, which might include complete personal information including the individual’s name, address, social media profiles, and so on.
3. Use the Search Box
Like many other platforms, Instagram also provides a search function to let you find other users on this platform. If your reverse phone lookup doesn’t work for you, try using the Instagram search box to see if you have any luck with it.
Search by username
You’ll wind up using search in two basic ways. The first way is searching the person’s username. You get the best results when you know their exact Instagram username, but if you don’t know it, try searching for their full names, nicknames, or usernames on other sites.
You can accomplish that sort of search by beginning typing the name you’re looking for in the search bar. While you’re doing this, pay attention to the people who appear in the autocomplete menu. There’s a good chance that you may find the person you’re looking for in this menu.
This can be difficult since not everyone puts their real name on their Instagram profiles. Plus, depending on how popular their names are, you could end up scrolling through many user results with the same names. If you don’t see the person appearing in the autocomplete menu, try searching their nicknames or usernames they use on other social networks.
Search for tags
In addition to users, you can search for tags on Instagram, but this isn’t the best way to find out someone’s Profiles unless you know what tags they use.
To search for a tag, just start typing your tag search term, either choose the result you were looking for from the automatic list of top suggestions or tap the Tags tab to filter the results that aren’t tags.
After you tap a tag, Instagram will display a grid of photos and videos that were tagged and posted by Instagram users.
4. Run a Reverse Image Lookup
Reverse image lookup services are available in two forms: the first one is to find someone’s pictures by searching for some other information you know about them, and the second one is to look up someone’s photos to find where they post them online – which in most cases, will lead you to their social media profiles.
Look up their photo
If you have a picture of the person, you might also try looking up the picture. Some people share their pictures on multiple social media, so you might be able to dig out their social network accounts this way. Just go to Google Images, click the little camera icon in the search bar, and it lets you, optionally, upload an image to use as the search reference.
If you’re using the Chrome browser, you can look up a photo on any web page by right-clicking on it and selecting Search image with Google Lens to perform a reverse image search on Google.
Browse through the results to see if you can find an Instagram page that has the picture posted.
Search on Google Images
If you don’t have a picture of the person, just type the person’s name and site:instagram.com into Google Images. For example:
john smith site:instagram.com
This will bring up posts and profiles associated with the name on Instagram.com. You might need to spend some time looking through the results.
